NHS1000 – 1000 Miles to Mark the 75th Anniversary of the NHS

In the words of The Proclaimers “I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more!” Well, that is exactly what a team of us here at Great Bear are aiming to achieve in 2023; 1000 miles each to collectively raise £1000 for NHS Charities Together.

Why are we Doing This?

NHS1000; NHS75

2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service. At some point in our lives, all of us will have had some dealings with the NHS and how wonderful is it that, if you should have an accident or become ill, you aren’t required to show insurance paperwork or a credit card before you get treated? One of the ways in which we can give back to the NHS is by taking part in the NHS1000 challenge; to walk, run, cycle or swim 1000 miles over the course of the year.

Who is Taking Part and Why?

NHS1000; NHS75

In total there are 9 of us taking part so between us we should hit 9,000 miles! Here are some of the team members who are taking part in the challenge and their own personal reasons for getting involved.

Alison-Jayne Logan, Territory Manager

NHS1000; NHS75

I have chosen to be part of the NHS1000 as sports has always been a big part of my life. I have been lucky enough to have travelled and gone around the world on different swimming trips that I find it important to use opportunities like this to use exercise as a way to give back to a community or organizations.

Carys Thomas, HR Administrator

NHS1000; NHS75

I have decided to get involved because I am running the half marathon and hopefully it’ll give me extra motivation to continue to run after it! I am also a keen swimmer so will be looking to rack up the mileage in the pool as well as in my training for the half marathon.

Lindsey Morham, Content and Digital Marketing Specialist

NHS1000; NHS75

Not only is this chance to raise money for a great cause it is a great excuse to get me moving more! I live close to some lovely countryside and, as the nights get lighter I am hoping to get out and enjoy some fresh air and evening walks to get the mileage in. I am also a keen runner so will start clocking up those runs!

Harry Merrington, Regional Sales Manager

NHS1000; NHS75

I need the motivation to get out on the bike more in the colder months, and love a good hike so why not raise some money for a great cause whilst doing so!

Ryan Down, Associate Territory Manager

NHS1000; NHS75

I am getting involved in the NHS1000 challenge to have a more active year, to get back on my bike and to raise money for a great cause. I’ll be looking to do a combination of walking, cycling and running to hit the 1000 mile goal.
