Four Ways to Keep Active During Covid-19 Lockdown

With Coronavirus dominating the headlines exercise is probably the last thing on your mind. However, exercise is the perfect way of helping you keep a healthy mind and body during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Those with catheters or sheaths are already encouraged by Health Care Professionals to keep active. So, here are some fun and healthy pursuits you can do at home:

  1. Get out into the Garden

If you feel a little anxious to leave the house during these times, you can always enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of your garden whilst working up a sweat. Many of us will not have touched the garden over winter, but Spring is fast approaching and there are many seeds that can be sown in these months now that the days are getting warmer and longer.

Get out and sort out those flowerbeds once and for all! Need some advice on where to start? Here are some flowers and vegetable seeds to sow in March.

  2. Get Spring Cleaning

Spring is not only a great time to work in the garden, but it is also a great time for a Spring clean! Make your house cleaning into an exercise by creating a daily routine. Having a routine during self-isolation will also help structure your day, not to mention the added benefit of finally getting around to the jobs you’ve been meaning to do for months.

Cleaning will burn more energy than staying sedentary, the key is to get your heart rate up and incorporate a few different moves into your routine for a great workout in your home.

  3. Turn Your Home into a Gym

Everyday household objects can be used as fitness tools. For a lot of exercises, you don’t need anything but your body weight to get through some workouts. A chair can be used to help with squats! That same chair can then help you with tricep dips.

Here are some exercises with helpful pictures that will get you moving at home in no time.

  4. Join an Online Class

    Staying active during Coronavirus isolation

There are so many online exercise classes online, we recommend starting with Yoga. This is a low impact exercise that requires minimal space and equipment. Many of the tutorials are easy to follow and are great for the mind and body alike. Why not start off your Yoga journey today?

Joe Wicks AKA The Body Coach also has a great video on Youtube for people over 60 looking to keep active. The video shows you some effective exercises using nothing but a chair. Why not challenge yourselves and give these exercises a go!
